Wicklow Kenpo Karate Academy was founded in 1995. The school offers instruction in the art of
Kenpo Karate and Self Defence. There are age specific classes for children and also adult classes
throughout the week and private tuition is also available.
The chief instructor at the academy is Professor of the Arts Alan Ellis who holds a 6 th Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. Mr Ellis has been training in martial arts for over fifty years and is one of a very few fully qualified Kenpo Karate and Self Defence instructors.
Kenpo Karate is an eclectic self defence system incorporating both Japanese and Chinese influences.
The system has been described as a study of motion and addresses a wide range of self-defence scenarios.
Training typically consists of warm ups, stretching, forms or kata, self-defence techniques, pad drills and sparring.
Kenpo is much more than a combination of kicks and punches; it is also a blend of ancient and
modern philosophies which enhance a practitioner’s health and well-being.
We can tailor a training program to individual needs and offer corporate lessons as well as lessons
for schools and colleges.
